Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has raised $200 million since she emerged as the likely Democratic presidential nominee last week, marking a significant start in her race against Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump.
Fundraising and Volunteer Surge
The campaign announced on Sunday that 66% of the donations came from first-time contributors in the 2024 election cycle. This surge in contributions followed President Joe Biden’s exit from the race and his endorsement of Harris.
Additionally, over 170,000 volunteers have signed up to assist the Harris campaign with various activities such as phone banking, canvassing, and get-out-the-vote efforts.
Campaign Momentum
Michael Tyler, the campaign’s communications director, highlighted the importance of this momentum:
“The momentum and energy for Vice President Harris is real — and so are the fundamentals of this race: this election will be very close and decided by a small number of voters in just a few states.”
Fundraiser Success
Kamala Harris campaigned in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, drawing hundreds to a fundraiser initially organized when Biden was still the Democratic frontrunner. Originally expected to raise $400,000, the event brought in approximately $1.4 million.
Democratic Support
Following Biden’s exit, Harris quickly gained support from key Democratic figures, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former House Minority Whip Jim Clyburn, former President Bill Clinton, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Additionally, former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama endorsed Harris, further boosting her campaign.

Super PAC Support
Future Forward, the largest super PAC in Democratic politics, announced it had secured $150 million in commitments within the first 24 hours after Biden endorsed Harris.
Kamala Harris’ Challenges Ahead
Despite the impressive start, Kamala Harris faces a formidable opponent in Trump, who has a strong and loyal base. Trump’s campaign continues to mobilize supporters effectively, leveraging his extensive network and previous campaign experience.
Democratic Hopes
Democratic House and Senate candidates have reported a surge in support since Harris emerged as the likely nominee. However, they remain aware of the significant challenge posed by Trump and his well-organized campaign.
In summary, Harris’ campaign has made a strong start with substantial fundraising and volunteer support, but the race against Trump remains intensely competitive. The next 100 days will be crucial in determining the election’s outcome.
